Welcome to the world of social enterprise

Do you know what a social enterprise is, or would you like to start one?

If so, why not go along to a free workshop tomorrow, Tuesday 6th October from 8:30am until 12 noon at the Tickfield Centre, Tickfield Avenue, Southend.

This special event - Social Enterprise: Under the Bonnet will help explain all you need to know about social enterprise, and it also heralds the arrival of Social Saturday on Saturday 10th October.

The programme is as follows:
9am - Introduction to social enterprise – what it is and why it matters. types of social enterprises, and government support
9.45am - How social enterprises differ from conventional businesses and charities. Generating income vs social goals. 10.20am - Break
10.40am - Examples of successful social enterprises
11.20am -Business viability and business planning for social enterprise. Setting direction, market awareness, social impact, perils and pitfalls, outline of a business plan

Participants are urged to join in the discussion and share their own social enterprise ideas, even if they are a work in progress!

On Saturday 10th October, the Council’s economic development team will be celebrating the borough’s social enterprises - follow @businessonsea to see find out more.
