Wolfson Foundation grant to help complete window and door renovation at Essex’s children’s hospice

An Essex hospice charity has received a £67,000 grant from the Wolfson Foundation to complete essential window renovation work at its children's hospice.

The grant will enable Havens Hospices to complete the replacement of all 251 ageing windows and doors across the 28-year-old Little Havens Hospice building. The project is being delivered in three phases, with the first two already completed using government capital funding, and the Wolfson Foundation's support now funding the final phase of works, due to be completed in September 2026.

The project aims to replace all windows and doors with aluminium frames and modern double-glazed units to keep the building warm, maintain temperature regulation, and reduce energy consumption.

It will save the charity an estimated £19,190 a year through reduced maintenance and energy costs from vastly improved efficiency, money that will help fund expert, compassionate care and support for babies, children and young people living with incurable and complex conditions across Essex, and their families.

Thanks to this support, alongside government capital funding for the earlier phases of work, every window and door in the hospice will have been replaced by September, meaning we can direct the money saved on energy costs straight back to funding the free specialist care that hundreds of local families rely on.”
