Book launch for Canadian author in Leigh-on-Sea

March 28, 2023

A free book launch is being held at Leigh-on-sea Library to celebrate the release of ‘The Spoon Stealer’ by Lesley Crewe.

The author, who is travelling from Nova Scotia in Canada to attend this event, will talk about why the story is set in 1968 Leigh-on-Sea, what her personal connection is with our corner of the world and why it was so important to her that she brings the story home to the UK.

The story centres around Emmeline Darling who signs up for a memoir writing course where she meets some women who soon become friends. As she regales them with her tales of tears and triumph, they are spell-bound.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture and tourism, said: “I am incredibly pleased to have Lesley join us for this free book launch and hear more about this award-winning story. I’m sure everyone who attends will extend her a typically warm Leigh-on-Sea welcome. While we know and love Leigh-on-Sea, this book has the potential to put our fishing village on the map, internationally. It’s sure to be a fascinating afternoon.”

The event takes place on Saturday 15 April, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. There will be sandwiches and tea, and books available for sale and signing.
