Strawberry & Basil Margarita

This fresh & exciting twist on the Classic Margarita is delicious! I always get my fresh ingredients for all my recipes from J.N Butler Greengrocers on the Broadway & Leigh Road, where they have a wide range of the freshest seasonal produce. Always shop local folks!

You'll need:

  • 25ml Tequila
  • 20ml Triple Sec
  • 5ml Kirsch (optional)
  • 4 Strawberries
  • 6 Basil Leaves
  • 1/2 a Lime (Cut into 4 wedges)
  • Simple Syrup
  • Ice
  • Martini Glass
  • Shaker, Strainer & Muddler

The method behind the madness:

  1. Cut your strawberries in half, remove the stalks and throw them into your shaker.
  2. Squeeze in your lime wedges and throw them in with 6 basil leaves & a splash of simple syrup. (You can make syrup at home by combining equal parts sugar and water, simmer until thickened, then leave to cool. It will keep for one week in a sterilised bottle in the fridge. Or you can always buy Gomme/ Pure Cane Syrup from good supermarkets)
  3. Muddle the ingredients in the shaker until the strawberries are fully pressed.
  4. Add the tequila, triple sec & kirsch, fill with ice and shake.
  5. Strain into a Martini glass filled with crushed ice & garnish with a Basil leaf.
