Mother's Day at Cook

March 11, 2021

The tradition of Mothering Sunday began back in the 16th Century where, on the fourth Sunday of lent, a special church service would be held and domestic servants were given the day off to visit their families. This was known as "going mothering".

The traditional food on that day would have been a Simnel Cake, a rich fruit cake which was made to mark the end of the austerity of Lent.

Today Simnel cake is a little out of fashion and when it is thought about it’s more often associated with Easter, so with mother’s day just around the corner.

The Cook store in Leigh has everything you need for the perfect Mother’s Day meal. Whether you are a family of 6, 4 or just the two, their delicious meal boxes are just the thing.  So let mum put her feet up and relax, all you have to do is choose from their great selection such as Family roast box, great family pies, curries or vegetarian dishes.  To accompany this of course you will need a sumptuous dessert; such as their wonderfully creamy cheesecakes, apple tarts, pavlovas and roulades.
