Saddle up for a safer cycling summer!

Sign up for this summer’s cycling courses to help you keep safe on the road.

Cycle Southend is offering training to suit all ages and skills over the forthcoming school holidays.

The courses range from those for beginners to Bikeability level 3 – designed for those up to 14 years old who are planning to ride to school.

Learn to Ride sessions

These are suitable for all ages from four years old. Book one-to-one training with an accredited instructor and if you haven’t got a bike you can hire one of ours.

Session details:

  • Monday 25th – Thursday 28th July inclusive
  • 9am - 9:45am; 10am – 10:45am; or 11am – 11:45am
  • At Leigh North Street Primary School, North Street, Leigh-On-Sea, SS9 1QE
  • Cost: £25 with own bike; £30 with hired bike


Level 1 Bikeability

This course for seven to ten-year-olds teaches all the basics needed to be safe on a bike, as well as how to check that a bike is in good working order. There will be a chance to practice all of these skills in fun challenges and games, and if you haven’t got a bike you can hire one of ours.

Course details:
  • Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th July (you need to attend both days to complete the course.)
  • 1pm – 3pm
  • At Leigh North Street Primary School, North Street, Leigh-On-Sea, SS9 1QE
  • Cost: £25 with own bike; £30 with hired bike


Level 2 Bikeability

This course for nine to 14-year-olds will develop your riding skills for safe and confident cycling on the road. You will need a suitable bike and helmet to take part.

Course details:
  • Monday 15th August and Tuesday 16th August (you need to attend both days to complete the course)
  • 9am – 1pm
  • Meet at the basketball court in Southchurch Park, Northumberland Crescent, Southend, SS1 2XB
  • Cost - £30


Level 3 Bikeability Course

This course for ten to 14-year-olds is aimed at those who have completed Level 2 Bikeability and want to plan a route to cycle to senior school. It will help develop confidence cycling on busier roads. You will need a suitable bike and helmet to take part.

Course details:
  • Tuesday 30th August
  • 9am – 1pm
  • Meet at the basketball court in Southchurch Park, Northumberland Crescent, Southend, SS1 2XB
  • Cost: £30

They are taught by expert tutors from Cycle Southend to set them securely on the route to safe and enjoyable cycling.”
