Summer of Fun for the 125th Anniversary

June 4, 2017 by Southend Borough Council

Over 30 projects are planned so far to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the incorporation of the Borough, thanks to a 125th Anniversary grants programme being offered by the Council.

A wide variety of innovative events have been supported through the grants programme, ranging from the “Make Southend Sparkle” garden competition and a garden festival in Priory Park; through to an Armed Forces weekend activity and Active Life event on the pier.

Music and theatre lovers in the area will benefit from a whole host of free theatrical and musical events including Per Mare Per Ecclesiam (By the Sea by the Church) on 10 June in Belfairs Park and the Live Art Living Room by local artist Scottee.

Scott Dolling, Director of Culture, Tourism and Property at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, said: “The variety of innovative events taking place is tremendous. If you haven’t had a chance to apply yet but would like to put on an event, we are making a call for some worthy community bids. Grants range from a few hundred pounds up to £1000.

“A condition of the grant was that organisations found matched funding for the project. It is amazing to see how small amounts of seed funding money have helped to leverage in such substantial external funds into the Borough.”
