Water, water, everywhere...
Water, water, everywhere...
For the past 5 days, I've been drinking nothing but water. This might not sound unusual, or particularly difficult, but let me explain a few things.
I LOVE TEA. I love it so much I once wrote an ode to it (http://raypoetry.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/love-affair.html). I'm pretty sure I have at least 6 cups during my working day. I also love ale, red wine and, on a hot day, a crisp cool Coke.
So why give it all up? For the RNLI! The lifeboat charity are conducting #H2Only - where fundraisers drink only water for 10 whole days. I thought it sounded like a good challenge, and one that didn't involve exertion, or lycra.
But it's been harder than I thought! Water is, well, dull. I have been in situations in the past 5 days where I have actually had to turn down free beer. FREE BEER! I also needed a caffeine jolt on Monday morning: no can do. Is eating a whole Lindt bar at 10am acceptable? Not really, but I did it anyway. I had to. I went for a pub roast on Sunday and stood at the bar and stared, salivating at the ales on tap in my local. "Just a still water," I said feebly, eyeing up the Maldon Gold.
The RNLI is a very worthy cause. What a lot of people forget is that these men and women VOLUNTEER their time to ensure people are safe in the sea, and living where we do it's something of great, great importance. They have made it really fun, though. They sent me stickers saying funny quotes like "You without wine? I'd like to see you try" and things like that. They posted brilliant temporary tattoos with 'I'm H2Only' on them - which I have sported and Instagrammed (https://instagram.com/raymondo_the_great/). It's been tough, but as of 5pm this Friday (12 June) I'll be ditching the water and celebrating with a double espresso and a bottle of Doom Bar with a straw in, but man, will my skin look good.
If you can spare a couple of quid to sponsor me in my watery plight, please do so. You can donate here! https://www.justgiving.com/noteaformsmorgan/
My top 5 drinks that I'm looking forward to having again that ARE NOT WATER
1. Tea. Twinings Everyday, although I'm digging Rosy Lee Tea of late
2. Anything from St Austell brewery
3. Ribena - all I would drink as a child
4. Soli Pinot Noir, available from Vino Vero - a cheeky little Bulgarian number
5. Green tea. Mmmmmmmmm. Clean.
