Sir David Amess RIP 1952-2021
Tributes have been pouring in since the senseless fatal stabbing of Sir David Amess our local Conservative MP.
Sir David lost his life at Belfairs Methodist Church whilst helping the public at his constituency surgery on Friday 15th October.
He had been our local MP for many years a very familiar local figure who worked tirelessly to help those in need especially when every other door had been closed to them. A champion of local charities, schools, local businesses and animal rights he was a people's politician.
Since his passing his biggest campaign may now become a reality with Southend obtaining city status. Boris Johnson announced on Monday the Queen had agreed to grant Southend-on-Sea "the City status it so dearly deserved" in memory of Sir David.
A Book of Condolence has opened at the Civic Centre for anyone wishing to sign, share their thoughts and stories or leave a message in his memory.
