Furmint Tokaj 2013

When you hear the words “Hungarian wine” you may think amazing sweet dessert wines and you wouldn’t be wrong in saying that, but Hungary have so much more to offer. Grown in the Northeastern region of Tokaj-Hegyalja comes the versatile grape Furmint. Not a well-known grape around the world but what an amazing wine it makes. Dry, crisp, refreshing and lemon in colour you could quite easily mistaken it for Sauvignon Blanc. Love seafood? Then you’ll love this wine.

Dry Furmint and seafood are a match made in Heaven. Flavors of green apple, bell pepper and pear drops, Such an easy drinking wine on those long summer nights. I call this wine an “outside wine” perfect for a Picnic, BBQ and alfresco dinning really set the scene for this amazing Furmint. Look out for Hungarian wine’s in the future as these are going to be big players in the wine world.

Hungary’s Tokaj wine region is to receive €330m cash injection to upgrade its vineyards and boost the international reputation of its wines. The money will also be used to strengthen the wine’s global image after research found that Tokaj was listed in 20% of Michelin starred restaurant in the US and 29% in the UK. So on your next lazy Sunday pop down to Old Leigh and pick up your favorite seafood then pop to Marks & Spencer for you bottle of Furmint.
