Get Virtual Quizzing for Havens Hospices

April 22, 2020

Grab a seat, a drink and get your best quiz brains at the ready and take part in the Havens Hospices Virtual Quiz to raise much needed funds for the charity.

The local charity will be holding a brain-busting weekly virtual quiz with the first quiz taking place on Tuesday 28th April at 8pm. It will take place every Tuesday for nine weeks and will end during Children’s Hospice Week on Tuesday 23rd June. It will be presented by the charity’s Patron and Radio Essex presenter Su Harrison.

These general knowledge quizzes are sure to keep everyone entertained during the Coronavirus lockdown especially for those who can’t attend their usual Pub Quiz night out.

Entry to the quiz is a minimum donation of £3 person and there will be an opportunity to sign up each week for the quiz by visiting www.havenshospices.org.uk/virtualquiz. Once registered, an email will be sent with details on how to enter the quiz.

Tanya King, Philanthropy Manager says, “After having to cancel and postpone our major fundraising events due to Coronavirus, the charity is having to come up with more ways to fundraise safely so we decided to set up a fun virtual quiz for anyone to take part in, from the comfort of their own homes. At a time like this, when we are feeling isolated from each other, it is important to continue to take part in as much as we can so we can continue to feel connected to the local community.

“This is a tough time for the hospice, our income is falling just as demand for our specialist care is increasing. The Hospice is continuing to care for patients at the end of their life and also supporting the NHS by opening up more beds at Little Havens and Fair Havens for children or adults who need to be discharged from hospital. We don’t charge a penny for our care – and that’s only possible because of donations from people like you.

“So if you are looking for something to do whilst stuck at home in the coming weeks, why not sign up to our quiz, have lots of fun and support your local hospice at the same time?”

Su Harrison has been a patron for Havens Hospices for many years, and volunteers with the charity at several events including supporting the charity’s London Marathon team at their monthly training runs and being MC at some of their events.

She said, “Being a Patron for Havens Hospices is an absolute privilege, the work they do has been so important to so many people and long may it continue. As long as they exist, I will help out in any way I can.”

Every gift, no matter how large or small, means so much to the families and patients Havens Hospices care for. £150 could provide a night of emergency respite care at Little Havens for families affected by this pandemic.

Supporters can still organise safe fundraising events from the comfort and safety of their home – for a list of ideas, head to www.havenshospices.org.uk/havensherobingo
