News and Events from Leigh Town Council: 14/04/2023

  • Coronation events: In lieu of lottery funding a Coronation tea is being held for over 60’s on Wednesday 3rd May with a children’s party being held on Friday 5th May. The afternoon tea is being held at Leigh Community Centre with live music; there is a £2 entrance fee and the event is between 12:00 and 14:00. Details for the children’s party aren’t available yet.

  • Monthly jazz sessions are taking place once a month on Wednesdays. The next event will be at the community centre on Wednesday 26th April from 19:30 to 21:30.

  • A trip to a garden centre is being organised for the over 60’s club. The previous excursion was to the Cherry Tree pub in Stambridge.

  • Caretakers are switching to the summer rota at the skatepark. Checks are to be made out 2 / 3 times a week.

  • Friends of Leigh Library Garden have suggested that a slab of concrete found in the gardens be covered with a mosaic. A competition is being considered between primary and secondary schools in the region so that the winning design can be instated.

  • Remedial works are to be carried out on Strand Wharf in Old Leigh.

  • Southend Council is being chased for work to be completed on the outdoor paddling pool. The work was scheduled for April 2023.

  • The Leigh art submission for Haven Hospice’s ‘Herd in The City’ is progressing. ‘Herd in The City’ is a collection of sculptures located around Southend-on-Sea. This is a charity event designed to raise money for the hospice.
