Our Vicar - St Clements

July 31, 2014 by Joanna Harrison

As Leigh Town Church, Saint Clements stands as a landmark at the heart of Leigh on the Broadway. A place of worship for over 1000 years, this Church of England parish church continues to be open for worship every day, and for a variety of community based activities. By tradition the church is Anglo-Catholic, and the welcome is warm and inclusive.

The church offers services of Baptism, Blessing, Funerals and Marriage (marriage in a Church of England church is governed by law, and only those who live in the parish or who have "qualifying connections" may marry in the church).

Fr Clive Hillman was licensed as the new Parish Priest on January 23rd 2014. He has many connections with Leigh, as his mother's family are from Leigh. His parents were married at St Clements, as were his grandparents. His Grandmother was born in Leigh and his grandfather in Prittlewell. He loves being back in a Town that has played so much a part in his early life and his family history. He sees the role of St Clements as being in the town and for the town, and as a space of spiritual, artistic, historical and cultural significance. He hopes to be able to work in partnership with the Town Council, the other churches and organisations, and the people of Leigh-on-Sea.
