Royal Mail confirmed today that the Leigh sorting office will close. Services will be moved to Southend on July 1st despite 8,000 people signing a petition to oppose this move. According to Royal Mail this closure is part of a nationwide modernisation programme.
The Palace Theatre are holding auditions for their Summer Youth Project, which this year will be "Annie", on Sunday April 28th. This project itself runs from July 28th to August 11th. The fifth Southend Film festival launches later this month with a jam-packed programme of film screenings and special guests celebrating a focus on British Independent films. The festival runs from May 2nd until May 6th.

The Bell hotel building, which has been derelict for many years, may at last be restored. Plans to turn the building into a restaurant and flats have been submitted to Southend council planning committee. A decision to accept or reject the plans will be made on June 26th. Southend Borough Council plans to close Leigh Library. We need to take action here.
