HM Coastguard Southend co-ordinated a multi service response to suspected ordnance close to the public areas and businesses in old Leigh last week. After initial investigations by the Army Explosive Team the ordnance was moved offshore where the three items were prepared for detonation and safely detonated with a controlled explosion.

Outdoor air quality monitors will be installed at each site, along with indoor monitors in selected classrooms. These will track particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), mainly caused by vehicles, to help identify practical ways to cut pollution and reduce children’s exposure.
