All eight of Southend beaches have once again met the high standards required for Blue Flag and Seaside Awards, as announced in this year’s prestigious Keep Britain Tidy awards.

HM Coastguard Southend co-ordinated a multi service response to suspected ordnance close to the public areas and businesses in old Leigh last week. After initial investigations by the Army Explosive Team the ordnance was moved offshore where the three items were prepared for detonation and safely detonated with a controlled explosion.
